Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
