Exploring a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have found plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is literally a turd attempting to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. In numerous challenges, encounter tough enemies and visit a store to acquire skins for your poop character.

Execute your actions with caution, as a wrong move means starting over. Jump using floating orbs to propel your character to new heights, traverse crumbling ledges, and touch buttons to unlock secret routes. Earn coins to purchase tougher levels as gameplay intensifies.

Visually, the experience shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing music score. The simple art with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of players of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though tough to recall previous releases where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment frequently included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as plant food. Naturally, such content is present heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, such as being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on PC in the fall.
