Man Who Approached Ariana Grande during Film Launch Prohibited from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality that leaped across a fence and reached for actress Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
The individual, aged 26, was given a sentence to nine days in prison for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities told news outlets.
He forced his way past photographers and charged at the performer and artist, who was attending the regional launch for the musical adaptation on 13 November. Co-star Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in the past June.
The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of re-traumatising Grande.
The singer has mentioned dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at her show in Manchester in several years ago killed 22 individuals and injured hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the authorities learned he had attempted to intrude on the red carpet event twice, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Event security intercepted him and restrained him.
He then uploaded videos expressing gratitude to the star for allowing his presence and said he was "at liberty."
Authorities took him into custody the subsequent day and brought charges against him with disorderly conduct, to which the man admitted guilt.
The Presiding Judge the judicial official was quoted by Channel News Asia as stating that he was looking for publicity, noting that he was wrong to think he would not suffer any consequences.
The actress has not commented on the incident.
Erivo spoke about the incident to a media outlet, remarking that she "simply desired to make sure my friend was safe."
"I'm sure he didn't intend us harm, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I aimed to ensure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she stated.
