Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
