The Belarusian player concluded the year with an impressive twenty-three to three Grand Slam match record.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.

A Year of Consistency

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record £11m in prize money.

She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.

On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
