Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
