Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.

"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."

George Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd prefer in that spot besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club that has never reached in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but commended their work this season.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this one," he continued.

Toronto's team secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
